IEM Toastmasters Meeting #192 on 27th February 2014, was called to order by Sergeant-At-Arms, Ng Yee Chia, CC at 7.45pm with twenty three attendees (19 members and 4 guests).

Word of the Day: Ebullient
The President, Alex Lu, ACB, ALB welcomed everyone and invited the grammarian, Lim Juleen to introduce the Word of the Day. After that, it is followed by attendees introducing themselves. He highlighted his gratitude to Yee Chia for his great efforts of getting the role players replacement in order, and to Juleen for recommending the Theme and Word of the Day.
Next, the President handed over control to the Toastmaster of the Evening (TME), Meera Shanmughanathan, CC. Meera introduced Toastmasters International history and IEM Toastmasters Club for the benefit of the guests. She highlighted that IEM Toastmasters has an excellent achievement of President Distinguish Club 10/10 since 2008, and further under the stewardship of “Godfather” Alex Lu, achieved the President Distinguish Club 10/10 in record time of 6.5 months on11th January 2014. She also reminded everyone that Toastmasters is about “learning by doing”.
The Table Topic Session was next with Table Topic Master, Rhoda Omar presenting challenging topics to the ebullient participants. Table Topic participants:

The meeting was then adjourned for an intermission of 10 minutes.
Sergeant-At-Arms Ng Yee Chia, CC, called for the meeting to be resumed. Project speeches session then began with three ebullient champion speakers presenting their project speeches:
#1 Anita Wong, CTM, CL – A Better Man .This public speaker spoke about using tolerance or negotiation instead of violence to solve a problem.#2 Robert Ram, DTM – Are You Sleeping. This communicator’s message to the audience was whether they were reaching their highest potential.
#3 Alex Lu, ACB, ALB – A Grandfather Story. Alex inspired the audience with his story of his grandfather and how he contributed to the society of Sandakan.
After the Project Speeches were delivered, TME Meera invited the General Evaluator, Jon Tan, DTM to take over the control of the meeting.
Firstly, Jon Tan invited the role players to read their roles and present their reports.

Secondly, he invited the following evaluators to present their evaluation of the speeches:
Speech Evaluator #1: Chia Meng Yee, CC, ALB
Speech Evaluator #2: Sim Bock San, CC
Speech Evaluator #3: Andrew Nathan, ACS
Following the reports and comments from the evaluators and role players, the general evaluator presented his comments. He praised IEM Toastmasters for being one of the well performing clubs with almost 40 members and fully supported the contest participants in the preparation for the upcoming contest, remarking that the club should now aim for the Table Topics championship, to claim the last instalment of Grand Slams when it came to public speaking. The General Evaluator gave some valuable suggestions for improvement, such as involving non-role players at a meeting in the table topics sessions as speakers, and suggesting that the club have 5 to 6 project speeches given the membership size.
After he concluded, Timer, Suresh Kumar, TM presented his report for all speakers and role-players, including the general evaluator.
The Presiding Officer then presented appreciation to the general evaluator and then presented awards to the following:
Best Project Speaker: Alex Lu, ACB, ALB
Best Table Topics Speaker: Anita Wong, CTM, CT and Azlina Hani Bt Zulkifli, TM
Best Evaluator: Chia Meng Yee, CC, ALB
There were a few announcements on the upcoming events as below, before the President delivered his closing remarks. This meeting adjourned at 10.30pm.
Announcements:
- The District 51 Area E2 International Speech & Table Topics Contest will be held on Saturday, March 8, 1:00pm at Dell Global Business Centre. Those who wish to attend are to provide their details, name, IC and car registration number to Alex Lu for security registration at Dell.
- IEM Toastmasters Meeting #193 will be on Thursday, March 13 at 7:30pm, at 2nd Floor, Wisma IEM.
- OUM Toastmasters Club will be hosting the International Speech and Table Topics Contests on Saturday, March 1st at 2:30pm. Members were encouraged to come and support some IEM members contesting at the club.
- TTDI Toastmasters Club will be organizing a debate session on the 23rd April 2014.
