IEM Toastmasters Meeting #201 on 26 June, 2014

Today we celebrate the final Meeting of the current 2013-2014 session.






IEM Toastmasters Meeting #201 on 26 June, 2014 was called to order by Sergeant-At-Arms Seyed Mohsen Forghani, TM at 7.30pm twenty four attendees coming from near and far:-

This meeting commenced with the Presiding Officer, Alex Lu, ACB, ALB welcoming all guests followed by attendees introducing themselves. After completing a round of introduction, the Presiding Officer then handed over control to the Toastmaster of the Evening (TME), Ir. Lim Juleen, TM. She introduced Toastmasters International (District and Club), meeting program and role-players.

The Project speeches session then began with five public speakers presenting project speeches:
• #1 Ir. Andrew Nathan, ACS: Persuasive Speaking #4: Addressing the Opposition – Into the Night. This speaker spoke of the disappearance Malaysian Airline Flight MH370.
• #2 Anthony Kolandai, ACS: Humorously Speaking #4: Keep Them Laughing – Savoury Snippets. This public speaker entertained the audience on his visit to the doctor.

An intermission of 15 minutes was announced. The meeting was resumed by Sergeant-At-Arms Seyed Mohsen, TM after which the General Evaluator, Ken Chan, DTM took control.

• #3 Chong Ee Lian, TM: CC #1: The Ice Breaker – My Hobby – “Purposive Interpretation: The Way to Go”. This communicator spoke on painting being her hobby.
• #4 Ir. Ismail Omar, DTM: CC#2 Organise Your Speech – Embracing Technology.
• #5 Engr. Suresh Kumar Kandasamy, TM: CC#3: Get to the Point – What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast.
• #6 Patrick Lee Boon Siang, TM: CC#4: How to Say It – Book is My Second Home.

He invited the following evaluators to present their evaluation of the speeches:
• Speech Evaluator #1: Meera Shanmughanathan, ACB, ALB
• Speech Evaluator #2: Heng Jing Yi, ACS, CL
• Speech Evaluator #3: Ng Yee Chia, CC
• Speech Evaluator #4: Rosidah Hardiani, ACB, CL
• Speech Evaluator #5: Lim Juleen, TM
• Speech Evaluator #6: Lee Meng Tze, DTM

The timer’s report was presented with all speech evaluators speaking within time to be qualified in the voting for the best evaluator. The general evaluator then invited other role players to present their report.
• Grammarian : Sim Bock San, CC
• Ah Counter : Ir. Joe Yap, TM

Upon receiving the comments from the evaluators and role players, the general evaluator presented his comments. After he concluded, Timer Steven Ang, TM presented his report for all speakers and role-players, including the general evaluator.

The President then presented appreciation to the general evaluator. He also presented awards to the following:

• Best Project Speaker: Patrick Lee, TM
• Best Evaluator : Meera Shanmughanathan, ACB, ALB

There were a few announcements on the upcoming events as set out below, before the President delivered his closing remarks for this wonderful Meeting. Meeting adjourned at 10.00 pm.

• The next club meeting #202 is on 10 July 2014 at 7.30 pm, at 2nd Floor, Wisma IEM.
• Club officer installation ceremony will be held on 11 July 2014 at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort.

The Project speeches session then began with five public speakers presenting project speeches:
#1 Ir. Ismail Omar, DTM: CC#1: The Ice Breaker – Sungai Besi to Marine Parade. This speaker spoke of his young adulthood and his journey to the UK to study engineering.
#2 Patrick Lee, TM: CC#3: Get to the Point – The Language of Life. This public speaker spoke of music being the universal language of life, and how we communicate our emotions through music.
#3 Meera Shanmughanathan, ACB, ALB – ACM: Specialty Speeches #1: Speak off the Cuff – Impromptu Speaking – “Purposive Interpretation: The Way to Go”. This communicator was requested by the evaluator to speak on the said subject, which was chosen from 5 different topics prepared by the speaker, the other subjects being on internet marketing, health, goal setting and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

Next came the induction of new members, Mahendran and Jaden. Congratulations to Mahendran and Jaden!
